Pot with Shawl:
Above was painted this morning. The pot and shawl were in the process of being set up when I arrived in the studio. They looked so innocent until the drama was achieved through the lighting, the bright colors and shadows.
12”x16” Acrylic on canvas board
Pot and Shawl
A day at a flea market
A small coastal town
So happy To be
Finally in the day.
Her arm above his elbow
Pulling him
Leading him
One display to the next.
The weaver
Looking through him
As the girl poses
Trying on each shawl
Which one to buy?
The weaver suggests red
Still staring as he pays.
He thought he’d be happy
This young girl on his arm
Seen only by strangers
Away for the day.
The copper pot purchased next
like her grandmother had
In a cottage on a rocky shore
Summers in her childhood
A time she had loved.
In the daylight
Framed in red
Seeing her
For the first time
Happy
Glowing.
The ride back to the city
Silence
Except for the radio
The sun setting behind them
The energy gone.
The shawl
Pulled tight around her
The pot
Hidden in a bag
Like the memory.
You are right, the drama is wonderful and you captured it perfectly!
