From A Train

From A Train
We were on a train for a long time yesterday traveling from London to Edinburg.
I finished a novel.
I napped.
I tried taking photos of the countryside.
Trees, bush, hills, tunnels and bridges flashed by, blocking too often the perfect shots. Very frustrating.
So I sketched, attempting to memorize momentary views, as the train in a flash, passed them. After viewing the image, I would sketch, embellishing and letting the lines work through to a point when doing more didn’t seem right.
Then I would look out again and start another.

All: 5”x 3.5” fountain pen

  3. So amazing, these wonderful sketches...they suggest the swift movement of a train, and those momentary glimpses of scenery as it flies by.
I really enjoyed seeing through your eyes.
Many thanks for sharing your experience. :)

    1. The trick is keeping the image in your head until the lines catch up.
      Thank you
