Pipe Bender


Some sketches of “ST” bending pipes yesterday afternoon.
1st: 12”x 9” fountain pen, oil sanguine and pastel on toned paper
2nd: 16”x 12” fountain pen, oil sanguine and pastel on colored paper
3rd: 8”x 14” ballpoint pen
4th: 17”x 14” ballpoint pen

  1. WOW...such power...such strength...those bulging muscles suggest immense effort as the pipe finally yields to his greater force.
    These must have been difficult poses to hold for any length of time...you must have felt rushed to finish your sketching before he needed to change position. But it was well worth the hard work...these are marvellous! :)

    1. “ST” actually bends pipe in his main profession as an electrician.
      I tend to work fairly fast, especially in ink, though he held the longer poses here, longer than expected.

  2. Wow my first impression was gosh he must be so strong, than he called out for help and every inch of his and their bodies show such strength and determination I love how the action moves on and on...wow wonderful, Anthony

  3. He is a strong guy, though not very large. I think he shows determination even more. I was wondering if bending pipes like this would be easier for a larger fat guy with half his strength?
