Neptune and Triton




Neptune and Triton

The second of three sculptures I sketched this morning at the Victoria and Albert Museum. The sculptor was Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini. He completed it in 1622 or 23.

      There was a sort of overbearing presence in this sculpture, standing over me as I sketched.

    Ah...the power of Neptune...the Water God cannot be defeated...is forever the victor!
    I love how evocatively you have sketched him...every muscle, every inch of his body screams "POWER"! :)

      I was more interested in the figure below, Triton. He seems to be the one directing the drama to me, maybe the one with the real power?
