Lonely Golf Course Tree

Lonely Golf Course Tree

Lonely tree at sunset
in an artificial place
where budding neighbors
are trimmed away
so that those into clubbing
small defenseless balls
can find where
they attempt to hide
after each
punishing blow.

Sketch is based on photo reference taken by my cousin, Elizabeth, now many years ago.
Finally took a moment to sketch this lonely tree.

51 Years

51 Years

Looked back at what was,
and then at now.
Comparing images to memories.
What was then
with what remains.

16 and 67.
There should be more.
More surprises in 51 years.
Though not really.
Not that surprising
after all.

My next self portrait should be more inventive.
Maybe four portraits on the page, starting earlier,
when I might have been considered cute.
Adding a forth exposing the bones,
with only openings for eyes and grinning teeth,
showing only the teeth left after a hockey stick
removed the ones in front
somewhere between
portrait two and three.

Out of Control

Out of Control

How the beauty,
the miracle
of words,
turns into
lethal
noise.

Sort of a downer sketch.. I know.. Especially on a pleasant Sunday morning.
One of many attempts to show what just can’t be expressed as well in words.
