View From the Bottom

View From the Bottom

The islands are out in the distance, outside the mouth of the bay, viewed here from the bottom.. I escaped there for a little while this morning.

Joy

Joy

Sometimes the title helps
Sometimes being by the sea
Sometimes clouds in the sky
Sometimes is enough

Imitating Giants

Imitating Giants

I see it happening,
maybe suggesting
a final pose to
one in the process.
Joining the missing
monumental forms
weathering to oblivion
along the various shores.

Well, it could have been like this.
Will probably never know.

Converging

Converging

Seducing rocks
Now veiled ghosts
Of those displaced

Dissolved monuments
From crashing waves
Many unkind winds

Embracing like lovers
Caught between
Now and then

1988

1988

On an early morning
in the summer of 88,
only my youngest
was truly awake
keeping us all up
through the night.

She just gave birth
a few days ago,
to her first child.
She’ll be awake
a lot now,
for quite a while.

On the porch of the old cottage at the Bay, when she was four.
