      I think of them as lingering ghosts still protecting a refuge they no longer can escape to themselves.

    But...oh...I feel their sadness at being unable to escape there fully themselves.
    Can Deities cry?
    I could swear I see tears glistening in their eyes...as they contemplate a more tranquil past...

      There is a sadness I’m sure, in having to provide protection from some evil that shouldn’t be. At this point they are beyond the tears.
