Still
Working Hard
Working
hard into the night
for
the excitement and drama
promised
in youth.
Surfacing
now in memories
wanting
new life.
Working
hard into the night
ignoring
the face of a once
familiar
stranger.
Opening
old eyes
in
a newly bashed mirror.
Working
hard into the night
remembering
old deadlines
in
a more predictable life.
Still
working hard
not
to finish.
I
sketched him yesterday afternoon. “R” posed, playing the role of Scrooge from
“A Christmas Carol”.
12”x
9” fountain pen, oil sanguine and chalk on toned paper.
Love the story here...Esp. intriguing were 'Opening old eyes
ReplyDeletein a newly bashed mirror.'...and from his left hand side I can see the face peeking ....maybe him younger?...very interesting sketch.
Thank you so much. You see so much.. I found his pose intriguing as I was sketching, I was taking notes on what I wanted to write even before the pose ended.
DeleteWow...what a fabulous "Scrooge"...the single candle flame barely illuminating his book...the strong impression of cold from the unmade-up fire...fantastic sketch, Anthony...a true classic revived! :)
ReplyDeleteHe did seriously take on the role, still working hard after a life of doing so, not giving in to the temptations of life beyond the work..
DeleteThank you
WOW you created such a story with his face and then with your excellent writing recognized him and all of those whose work is never finished! EXTRAORDINAY Anthony
ReplyDeleteGlimpses of a possible story for this was in my head even before the pose ended.
DeleteThank you
Bonjour cher Anthony,
ReplyDeleteLa nuit permet certaines confessions... Les pages blanches se remplissent. Elles sont ce que le divan est au psy.
Très joli dessin.
Gros bisous ♡
I agree. It is late into the night when such writing occurs.
DeleteThank you
I love your sketch here.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me so much of my grandpa as he was a writer and was always writing 'late into the night' and he always wore a hat very similar to yours here! oh, he also wore glasses ...gosh, such a good memory for me!
Great writing also ...
Thank you
DeleteI have similar memories from the sketch, except for the hat.. The memories are good too…
