Practicing

Practicing

Practicing in the city neighborhood
I grew up in as a teen
I remember them
Beautiful
Desirable
Scary

They rehearsed as dancers and models
Testing how liberated they were
Pretending I didn’t exist
I didn’t
Eyes in the clouds

Their temporary role models weren’t much older
Though I feared them more
Not pretending as much
They acknowledged me
With practiced dark glares

This is the painted version of the sketch posted back in early September. The painting has been leaning against the studio wall wanting more attention for a week now. Today I added more paint.
22”x 28” acrylic on stretched canvas

  1. Bonjour cher Anthony,

J'aime la manière que vos danseuses évoluent... Elles semblent vouloir interpréter une danse spéciale, celle que leurs impulsions intérieures leur dictent...
J'aime beaucoup les nuances de couleurs.

    Gros bisous

  2. I remember, that they were trying life on, still what it felt like what they could be...I didn't quite get it then I get it now, and it's awesome

    1. They hopefully avoided some of the falls.
      Thank you

  3. Gosh...they ARE awesome, aren't they!
I would feel intimidated...possibly even cancelled out by their "larger than life" presence.
Even the buildings appear to shrink in their company!!
    Yes...absolutely awesome...:)

    1. They are sort of larger than life here. Memories do that.
      Thank you

  4. You have captured that feeling of "I am better than you"...kind-of haughty and of completely being ignored! I enjoyed and liked this painting very much, Anthony, and I am sure that if you met them today, you would no longer be ignored~~~
