Yesterday’s
Queen
Yesterday’s
queen meets today’s. Some deal better with tomorrow than others.
Of
course the main character, the queen in the sketch is from a drawing I did
earlier this year of “MA” in a life drawing session. I made up the old guy, and
found today’s queen in another of my older sketches.
I
think a lot these days about the beauty so obvious in youth, yet somehow lost
in memories, as we get older. And for some, how easily memories are forgotten,
a challenge for the tomorrows to come.

I wonder if beauty takes a back seat as we age to some survival of the species scenario. Maybe in youth its more the beauty equates to desirability for obvious reasons. The beauty is still there as we age. There is just less desirability when at a basic level, survival is no longer in the cards? I do enjoying drawing “MA”. This sketch and thoughts of beauty was a good excuse..

Oh yes...how I relate to this...being a "yesterday's queen" Haha:D
ReplyDeleteI like how you have placed her in front. That indicates to me that although no longer in the bloom of youth, she still has great value.
Thank you, Anthony. You have unknowingly worked wonders on my self-esteem!
I also like the male figure you have added to the centre. He brings a sort of balance...a link between feminine youth and maturity.
Yes...I adore this.:)
Beauty and aging continues to fascinate me, especially now as I have passed into this “yesterday” phase in life. I do think it’s more difficult for women than men though, as beauty and being desirable is made so much more import in our culture. I think beauty in youth is an instinctive enhanced trait for survival. It doesn’t last. Lasting beauty comes with living through and acceptance that being desirable isn’t as important as finding what’s beautiful in ourselves.

i recognized Maw immediately she is awesome and her daughters? trainees? you're the most interesting of all
ReplyDeleteWe all see different things. I was seeing yesterday’s beauty, and today’s. I’m not sure now why I even added the old guy, non of us are as interesting.
DeleteThank you
only from your point of you, I think you're pretty darned interesting you would belong in this photo, not so old but you know
DeleteI wouldn’t want to be between these two☺
