Sailor

Sailor

“MT” was playing the role for a costumed figure session yesterday. These two portraits are from the pose he held most of the session. I think he slept through most of it.
Both: 9”x 12” fountain pen, oils sanguine and chalk on toned paper.

  1. Hi's so monumental at your sketches like a town, or a ship! it doesn't matter if he sleeps or not, he's still very well noticeable, influences the any other characters if such might appear...

    1. If I hadn’t attempted the background, if it was just about him, I think the sense of drama would be lost.

  3. He looks exactly like a Sailor, sleeping or exhausted from his long year on the ship...will she be there still? did she wait for him? I love this Anthony

    1. I hope someone is waiting for him. He seemed sad, maybe lonely, even with the three or four of us drawing him.
      Thank you

  4. He looks like a salty dog. Definitely sleeping in the second one. Or just resting his eyes, as my dad would say.

    1. Resting his eyes is much kinder, and probably more accurate.

  5. He does look tired (or perhaps a little low).
I think he is on shore leave, and is desperately missing the open sea!
