Stranger's Face

Stranger's Face

An old collected image
waiting to be sketched.
This void between holidays,
when sessions to draw from models
aren’t happening.

I resort to these strangers,
Attempting to connect.
Of course she remains
a face in a photo,
a stranger from
another’s past.

5.5”x 8.5” fountain pen, oil sanguine and chalk on toned paper

  2. And yet you draw her beautifully as if you had known her a long time. I love the idea of it, a face found in your file photos of stranger, I find that magnificent!

It is so much more rewarding to draw from life, even if the model is a stranger. By the time I’ve sketched her or him in a few poses, I feel like I know them. This doesn’t happen when drawing from photos.

  3. ...and yet...you seem to know every contour of her face...every hair on her head.
THIS is is a type of genius...an intuition that captures a total stranger's Soul in a perfected work of art.
    Aah...utter perfection...:)
