In first she wants to stay alone, hiding her feelings, being closed....Second one, she feels drawn back to outer world...Interesting sketch, background always plays some supporting role in your sketches...Love the mix of medium.
Initially the backgrounds are added to pull forward the light and push the shadows back.. Often there is the need to tie the figure down, so she doesn’t float away☺ Thank you

There is something decidedly child-like about this beautifully touching pose. When emotions are so overwhelming that we need to keep them hidden, we instinctively turn away from prying eyes...yet in that very act, the onlooker perceives our distress at a very deep level, arousing a powerful sense of empathy... So, so, beautiful.:)
I agree there is something about the act of looking away. Success with this tactic does work better when a child is the one turning away… I kept wondering why she wouldn’t look toward me☺ Thank you
The sketches, paintings and sometimes the writing I post on this site express what needs to be known about me. I attempt to record on a daily basis what I observe, what I imagine, and sometimes what I dream about.
I hope you enjoy my art, and the dialogue.
