The second of three sculptures I sketched
this morning at the Victoria and Albert Museum. The sculptor was Giovanni
Lorenzo Bernini. He completed it in 1622 or 23.
9”x 12” fountain pen and chalk on toned grey

Ah...the power of Neptune...the Water God cannot be defeated...is forever the victor! I love how evocatively you have sketched him...every muscle, every inch of his body screams "POWER"! :)

The sketches, paintings and sometimes the writing I post on this site express what needs to be known about me. I attempt to record on a daily basis what I observe, what I imagine, and sometimes what I dream about.
I hope you enjoy my art, and the dialogue.

His torso seems so heavy!
ReplyDeleteThere was a sort of overbearing presence in this sculpture, standing over me as I sketched.

I was more interested in the figure below, Triton. He seems to be the one directing the drama to me, maybe the one with the real power?
