Vertumnus
and Pomona
Another
of my sketches of a sculpture done earlier this week at the Victoria and Albert
Museum. This sculpture is by Laurent Delvaux around 1725. I’m not sure what
drama is being played out, though I think they are Greek gods.
9”x
9” fountain pen and chalk on toned grey paper
you have that Greek Gods look to perfection, wow again
ReplyDeleteHopefully so. I wouldn’t want to offend☺
DeleteI'm not sure what drama is being played out either...but I do know your sketch is phenomenal!
ReplyDeleteThe story is intriguing...why is he holding a theatre mask?
Why does the woman seem in such awe of him, and the children afraid and hiding?
Yes, I am very intrigued...
The plague for the sculpture said something about them masquerading as someone else, until the masks were removed. I’ve yet to search and learn more about them.
