Vertumnus and Pomona

Vertumnus and Pomona
Another of my sketches of a sculpture done earlier this week at the Victoria and Albert Museum. This sculpture is by Laurent Delvaux around 1725. I’m not sure what drama is being played out, though I think they are Greek gods.
9”x 9” fountain pen and chalk on toned grey paper

  2. I'm not sure what drama is being played out either...but I do know your sketch is phenomenal!
The story is intriguing...why is he holding a theatre mask?
Why does the woman seem in such awe of him, and the children afraid and hiding?
    Yes, I am very intrigued...

    1. The plague for the sculpture said something about them masquerading as someone else, until the masks were removed. I’ve yet to search and learn more about them.
      Thank you
