Fired
That’s
what it looks like to me. I have always assumed the guy in the middle finally
told off the boss.
The
sketch is loosely based on a photo I took on the steps in front of St. Peters,
at noon, a few years ago. They were probably just at lunch, getting ready for
the afternoon.
I’m
slowly getting to subjects I thought I might
paint. I took this off my list. The sketch was enough.
11”x 11” ballpoint pen and a little colored
pencil on toned grey paper
You sketched so perfectly that look of disbelief, some of anger, others mute from the shock, they were fired and they all have pink slips...How great are YOU...applause, applause
ReplyDeleteThey all sad. So they all could be in the same boat. My take though, is that the guy in them idle was canned. The others too me are a little embarrassed, for not standing up for him.

Gosh, yes!
ReplyDeleteAnd how the others look up to him for standing up for himself with his unreasonable boss.
Perhaps they are wishing they had his courage?
Very impressive, Anthony:)
You see the situations the same as I did.. The others feel bad. I wonder in a way though if they’re also relieved, it’s him and not them?

That spot on the steps of St Peter's is where I "see" their OFFICE. No rent, no insurance, no telephones, no printer. And the central-figured boss, is setting out their assignments for the afternoon..."OK, get moving people"! He saying.
ReplyDeleteA much more uplifting story, better than from my point of view. This is where I should have started, like you..
DeleteThank you
There's a thousand words in this painting, sitting on the fringe of your brush ;)
ReplyDeleteThere really are. And just think of all the possibilities, the stories within a simple gathering like this. I’m especially interested in the two behind the rest.
DeleteI'm curious why did you put a hint of pink on each one, that's how I deduced pink slips...for everyone
ReplyDeleteI was just experimenting. The one guy had a red tie. And then I was wondering if the faces and places showing flesh should be emphasized.
