L'Afrique

L’Afrique

This is a sketch of another of the sculptures in front of the Musse D’Orsay, from the Paris visit of just a few days ago. It is one of the Six Continents Sculptures by the museum entrance.
The sculptor for L’Afrique is Eugene Deleplanche. The six sculptures, all by different sculptors, were in Paris' third World's Fair, the 1878 l'Exposition Universelle.
12”x 9” fountain pen and chalk on toned grey paper

  1. It's interesting how the position of shoulders changes the character! Nice.

    1. Thank you.
I have another for tomorrow. I ran out of light tonight to photograph the sketch for the next post.
I have been sketching the sculptures I visit, mostly as practice, to make up for being so far from the live modeling sessions I attend a few times each week at home.

    1. The spirit was created by the sculptor more than I. I do love the strong pose. She looks so powerful.
      Thank you
